Wapi the Whale
Wapi is the last of his kind, a pink whale living off the coast of Newfoundland. He’s an adventurous soul, but also a solitary one, spending much of his time alone, exploring the depths of the ocean and finding new places to explore. Incredibly curious, Wapi likes swimming up to boats to investigate what’s inside, however he often gets himself into trouble and having to find a way out again.
One day, Wapi was swimming along the coast when he spotted a boat. He swam up to investigate, and was surprised to see a group of people on board. They began to call out to him, and he realized they were speaking his language. The boat people told him they were Inuit, from the same tribe as his name.
They told him stories of his kind, and how the glorious pink whales had once been plentiful in the ocean. But now they were all gone, except for him. The Inuit told Wapi that his kind were known as bringers of luck, and that his name meant “lucky”.
Wapi was touched by their stories, and was even more touched by their kindness. He thanked them and soon went on his way again. From then on, Wapi made sure to share his luck with anyone he met. He even shared it with the boats he encountered, ensuring they would have good luck on their journeys.
